nds4droid release 34

I have pushed a small release for nds4droid. As always it’s on Google Play and sourceforge. The changes:

  • Added a Japanese translation
  • Enabled move to SD card

As I noted in the forums I’ve been pretty busy with some other stuff in my life recently and haven’t had much time to devote to nds4droid (something I do completely for free — I think most people forget this), but I should be able to focus more on it again soon. Until then, enjoy!

  1. I can’t seem to play Fire Emlem Shadow Dragon. It says, ” Unable to save data. Please turn off the power, reinsert the game card … ” and so on. What do I do?

  2. you are really right you are doing it for free but you are making it very good. i can say best nds emulator is yours. only you can upgrade nds emu. because there isn’t an other person can do it. Thanks so much for the update

  3. jeff add a donation version in the playstore

im sure there will be those who would financially support u willingly

  4. Sorry! Accidentally posted this message on Release 33.

I just wanted to let you know that the “Maintain Aspect Ratio” is not working on the ASUS Nexus 7. I tick and untick, restart the app and nothing changes. Am I doing something wrong? The games on screen still stretches regardless.

PS: Your app is amazing. Please keep up the good work.

    1. You did read this part of his post:

“As I noted in the forums I’ve been pretty busy with some other stuff in my life recently and haven’t had much time to devote to nds4droid (something I do completely for free — I think most people forget this), but I should be able to focus more on it again soon. Until then, enjoy”

      , do you?

  5. Большое спасибо за работу. Больше всего хочется скорости FPS. Очень медленно грузятся игры

  6. Thanks for your work on this. I look forward to further releases, but as is it is better than not having a free emulator. It was well worth the download, some games run super smooth like picross, phoenix wright, and texas holdem. If u could figure out how to get the fps up I would definitely pay for this app or donate.

  7. hey jeff, whats this about? dsemume is optimising itself for arm ?

    DeSmuME-Fork (2013/06/14)
    2013-06-14

EmuCR:DeSmuMEDeSmuME-Fork (2013/06/14) is released. DeSmuME-Fork is a fork of the Nintendo DS emulator DeSmuME , with a new arm threaded interpreter and android support. Android support is based on nds4droid .

        1. but nds4droid is based on desmume, and now theres a desmume based on nds4droid? and its slower? hmmm strange, anyway it just got updated today

          1. Nope,… Only some stuff is based on NDS4Droid, to make it compatible to the Android-platform. Maybe to make a port of every newest version to Android easier.

          2. I guess it’s nearly a direct port, without much optimisations…
NDS4Droid is also a port, but it is somewhat optimized and probably some stuff is not “back-portable”.

  8. Pretty damn sure all anyone wants on this apps updates are speed Jeff. Not more languages. If you can increase the speed and make all games run at atleast 90%, then people will stop complaining, well atleast the majority. Lots play Pokemon, and it runs incredibly laggy and slow, please focus on speed

    1. I don’t think you understand even the basics of what you’re saying. First of all, Jeff didn’t do this translation, someone else did. Second of all Jeff has a job. Third of all even the speeds it’s currently at are amazing, and every optimization makes it harder to find and do the next optimization.

  9. Exophase and gechdcb just registered at this forum. 🙂
So there are some devs here already posting some useful information!

      1. actually for this emulator a dual core would be better because NDS4droid doesn’t support multicore.
And as a dualcore should have more gflops per core than a quadcoe, 1.2GHz dualcore should be faster,

    1. Oops,… Posted in regard to the question of the anonymous user.
The one with most cores and highest GHz usually…

  10. So, if nds4droid works better on dualcore android devices, is there a way to tick a box in the settings at some point so the app can optimally function on either. maybe I am thinking of things that don’t need to happen yet.

  11. Great App!

There are a few things I found:

    – a .nds ROM inside .zip with non-ASCII characters (like chinese, japanese) will result invalid “State” and “Battery” with a file of 0 byte (but the App can still read it).

    – a simple fix maybe: allow user to “Save State as …” can save users who had beat Pokemon 10 times to save their “States”

  12. This is just a thought but what if you took the ds ui and alter it to your way and to look for roms have a scan sd card option? Was just a thought to give your application more of a change then any other ds application out there

  13. I have a htc evo design 4g and everytime I try to play dbz attack of the saiyans on this emulator it always says Memory playback failed please turn off power and reinsert card, can you please fix that (note that I downloaded this rom from coolroms.com.

    1. ….
No, it just doesn’t support multithreading, so it use only 1core on your device (no matter how many you have).

  14. when i play pokemon crystal the time doesnt move when i log out and for some reason it wont save unless i save it via menu button. any ideas?

      1. It’s okay! I speak gibberish. “When I play Pokemon Crystal the game’s internal clock doesn’t sense the passage of time. Also, in-game saves don’t work, I have to use save states.” Better?
